Preview

Don't know what I'm gonna call this one yet. Hopefully it'll come to me by the time I finish it. College has started and it's been hard finding time to squeeze a solid painting session in. But hopefully I'll finish it within a few weeks or so!

Paintings/Summer Projects

Okay, so I was gonna put up what the Joseph Cornell box project from school looked like in the end but I thought it looked stupid so I just......won't haha XD
But now, since school's out I can work on whatever I want! I've started out pretty slow so far but here's some stuff I've finished and in the works...
First piece of the summer:

Colored pencil on paper 8.5"X11"

The main thing I'm gonna be doing this summer is painting on wood with acrylic (and maybe thick oil, instead of thin washes like I usually do. I want something more opaque this time)
The piece below I did right before summer:

Acrylic on 7"X7" wood

Below is a work in progress. I can't wait to finish this one! I'm trying to experiment with multiple layers in order to achive interesting textures. This one's in acrylic too.

Thanks for visiting~!

Josheph Cornell Boxes

Last project of the year is to do a box/collage 3D project inspired by Joseph Cornell, where we basically create a scene of some sort within a mounted box. Here's an example:

I've decided to do my box with an Incan/Aztec/Mayan theme. Here's what I've got in the works so far (by the way I'm using colored pencil on cardboard here):

Then I'm gonna add in some Aztec/Mayan-looking monster/god in there somewhere. Don't know exactly how this is all gonna come together but I just hope it doesn't look ridiculous XD Something like this:

Hershey's Kisses

There's only two more weeks until the AP test! Here's one of my last concentration pieces. I ran out of wood (nooooooo~!) so i just used canvas. The girl is in graphite and oil and the background is in acrylic. The bottom part is actually a dark brown but my shitty camera made it look black T-T

I based this off of this old Hershey's ad:

Hikari Shimoda

Let's go on a little bit of a tangent with this post, shall we? Lately I've been obsessing over a Japanese artist called Shimoda Hikari. Check our her site: http://amakihikari.fc2web.com/
So as a result, I've been having the urge to draw and color in her style and keep some of her motifs in mind, but adding my own little twists. Here is what my brain has produced on this Shimoda-inspired high (these two were done with colored pencil. the one on the top has some digital components too though) :

Below are a few of my favorites of hers >3<

More AP Studio

Here's the newest piece for my vintage themed concentration. More work on wood. I wanted this to look like one of those old portraits where everyone just stares right into the camera with a blank face, so you don't really know what they're thinking...Okay so maybe I draw stuff like that all the time, but the point is I like blank faces! lol

I like my organized mess...Not really I should hella clean that up. Half of that stuff I didn't even use for this piece! Anyway, this is what my painting area looks like most of the time.

And here's another preview! This one is a sketch for a drawing/painting of an old Hershey's Kisses ad.

Little Bo Peep

More work on wood. This time it's Litte Bo Peep! Store-bought carved wood, graphite, colored pencil and oil used. I'm really starting to like this combination :)

Below is work in progress. It's the same thing but this time i put a matte glaze over the graphite. i'm not diggin it too much cuz the paint doesn't soak into the wood, so it's so slippery/ never dries! and i keep accidentally getting high off of the oil paint/thinner/linseed oil fumes! >80 not cool...
